Electrical Layout co‑development for a high‑tech machine platform

Electrical Layout co‑development for a high‑tech machine platform

To scale multiple semiconductor machine platforms, a high-tech OEM needed a predictable and standardised electrical layout approach without losing speed or control over cost. PDM joined as a co-development partner across multiple phases of the V-curve, from early concept to delivery. Together we built a platform-wide framework that improved reuse, compliance and installability, while supporting predictable lead times and capacity planning.

OUR CUSTOMER

A leading high-tech OEM in the semiconductor industry developing highly complex machines with long, iterative development cycles where the electrical layout functions as the nervous system connecting power, signals and communication across cabinets and modules.

THE CHALLENGE

Complex electrical backbone across modules

The electrical layout functions as the machine’s nervous system, connecting power, signals and communication across cabinets and modules throughout the platform.

Parallel platform development created variability

Multiple platforms and variants were developed in parallel, causing capacity needs to fluctuate and increasing coordination overhead.

No uniform, platform-wide way of working

Without a shared architecture and standards, teams faced inconsistent designs, limited reuse and recurring rework across projects.

Unpredictable lead times and cost pressure

The combined effect led to long, unpredictable lead times and made it difficult to keep delivery predictable and costs under control.

Building excellence together

PDM became an integrated extension of the OEM’s engineering organisation. We co-developed the electrical layout from early concept onward and supported delivery in later phases of the V-curve.

Together we set up a platform-wide framework and way of working. This drove standardisation, compliance and installability resulting in a compliance driven, installable EL architecture with maximum commonality across machines.

The impact we made

By combining hands-on co-development with platform-wide standardisation, we helped the OEM improve predictability, reduce rework and unlock measurable cost and reuse benefits.

OUR APPROACH in action

We don’t just add capacity. We embed with the client team to structurally co-develop, standardise and optimise complex electrical systems across projects and platforms, delivering measurable imporvements in cost, quality and predictability.

  • Co-development across the V-cycle:

Support from early concept through detailed engineering and delivery, aligned with the client’s development cadence.

  • Platform-wide framework and standards:

Create a shared architecture and way of working to drive reuse, consistency and scalability across variants.

  • Compliance and installabiltity by design:

Design choices guided by relevant standards and practical installation constraints to reduce late-stage surprises.

  • Early validtion with multidisciplinary alignment:

Short feedback loops with stakeholders to accelerate decisions and prevent rework.

  • Design-to-cost mindset:

Optimise beyond the initial scope by simplifying designs, improving commonality and supporting predictable capacity planning.
