Operations

Operations Management is about Leadership: improving, innovating and re-directing the development or production environment. Balancing these three objectives, as a continuous development, based on a culture and conditions enabling to do so.
Insights regarding operations management of a production environment are numerous:

  • Strategy, structure, systems, key competences, staff, style and values;
  • Being effective in production with a high level of efficiency;
  • Customer satisfaction, utilization of resources, profit maximization, operational management;
  • Planning, organizing, delegating, coordinating, follow up. Clear objectives.

In our view operations management is the leadership including the management of the processes, logistics, resources and assets to produce and deliver products. It’s where value is created. To do so all stakeholders are taken into account, cooperating on basis of a shared vision, mission, values, execution planning, roles and responsibilities, goals and objectives. Hands-on, focused on creating value and impact, empowering the potential of it’s human assets.

operations management model

The concept of operations management is also applicable to service organizations i.e. Development environments. The same principles apply. And also requires management of both the strategic and day-to-day production of services. Decisions are made including operations strategy, product design, process design, quality management, allocation of resources and competences, in/outsourcing, facilities planning.

On this basis operations management is especially focused on continuous development, improvement, innovation and direction. An environment, conditional for current and future performance and relevance. Meaning that the management of operations is always in search of:

  • Knowing and understanding their current and future business including all disciplines within the development and production environment;
  • How to continuously develop insights, vision and planning;
  • Methodologies and programs to effectively change and transform.

We at PDM are especially driven to contribute to the development of operations management. Since it’s a strong tool in developing towards Industrial Excellence. And also since improving, developing, innovating, changing, implementing, transforming, creating value and behavioral change is at the core of our being.
